Course Description

Accounting is the study of how to record, analyse, interpret on report on the financial health of small to large organisations. All business organisations small or large, require professional accountants to perform accounting functions and deliver efficient results within the organisation. Through an excellent combination of conventional theory learning and practical industry experience, this course is specifically designed to help students gain the necessaryskills required to pursue a career in today's fast moving corporate business environment. Successful completion of the Diploma of Accounting allows access to the Advanced Diploma of Accounting, Bachelor of Accounting and further to a CPA and CA. This qualification is designed to assist employees to perform duties such as: introducing and maintaining accounting systems, maintaining internal control systems, preparing financial statements for a reporting entity, preparing tax returns, reporting on business performance, managing small teams, developing business plans and preparing management accounting reports.
Entry Requirements
In order to gain entry into this course, the potential student must: ● Be 18 years of age or over ● Have satisfactorily completed year the Australian 12 (or equivalent), and ● Have an IELTS band score of 5.5 or TOEFL 500 or equivalent
Course Delivery
The course is delivered over 52 weeks per year. It includes 40 weeks of tuition and 12 weeks of term break. 40 weeks include 8 blocks, each with teaching period of 5 weeks. Students have face-to-face tuition of a minimum of 20 hours per week (not self paced or part time).
The medium of instruction at Wentworth Institute is English. Delivery of this qualification combines face-to-face trainer led theory classes, practical sessions involving small groups, individual and team activities, practical demonstration, and role play.
Assessments
The theoretical components of each unit of competency are class room based, face-to-face trainer led whilst the practical components are delivered through observation and practical demonstration. Each unit of competency involves assessment tasks conducted in a range of contexts. Such assessment tasks include case studies at critical incident, practical demonstration, individual project, report writing, portfolio of evidence, closed book exams, role play, oral presentation.
Career Prospects / Vocational Outcomes
The Diploma of Accounting is designed for students with little accounting knowledge, people returning to the workforce and seeking a formal qualification, people who want to extend their career path options and people currently in the workforce who want to upgrade their skills or have existing skills recognized. Students successfully finishing the Diploma of Accounting can seek employment as an assistant accountants, office managers, administration managers, accountants, budget officers, accounts receivable officers, accounts payable officers, tax clerks, audit clerks, MYOB officers, and financial controllers.

Learning Pathway

Successful completion of the Diploma of Accounting may render the student eligible for exemption in an appropriate undergraduate University Course or they may enter into the Advanced Diploma of Accounting or Bachelor of Accounting.
Recognition of Prior Learning & Recognition of Current Competency
RPL is the assessment process for recognizing competencies gained through previous learning, work and life experiences.
Students need to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/ Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) before their enrollment. In order to be granted for RPL, students will need to provide evidence that they are already competent in this/these specific unit or units and these evidences must be valid, authentic, current and sufficient.
