What is General English?

 

General English is a twelve (12) week course with each week having twenty hours of English lessons taught across six levels:

  • Beginner
  • Elementary
  • Pre-Intermediate
  • Intermediate
  • Upper Intermediate
  • Advanced

This course is intended for students wishing to learn English for a variety of different purposes. All four macroskills of reading, writing, speaking and listening will be studied.

How is the course taught?

General English is taught using the communicative approach. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the classroom. Teaching materials are taken from a broad spectrum of sources including published ESL textbooks, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, the internet, magazines and films, DVDs, documentaries, books (both fiction and non-fiction), catalogues, brochures, newsletters etc, guest speakers and excursions on a monthly or six weekly basis

What are the entry requirements?

There are no requirements for entry to this course. Students will be tested on arrival and placed in the level which suits their current proficiency. When you arrive at the college, you will be tested and placed into a class suitable for your level of English language proficiency.
