Student Support Services

1. Flexible Learning and Assessment

ANC Management is committed to providing a flexible and equitable environment for learning and assessment by delivering quality, student-centered learning experiences to all students and

applying the most effective and appropriate teaching and learning modes and technologies. This will be achieved by seeking to extend flexible learning opportunities for its students and to promote flexible teaching and assessment opportunities for its staff within the constraints of resources.

ANC Management defines flexible learning as an approach to education which offers the student choices in what to learn, how it is learned and assessed, and when and where learning occurs. The choices that are made available in any particular unit will reflect a balance between the needs of the particular student and the capabilities and resources of the ANC Management. Further choices may include alternative pathways through courses offered by Management and through transfer towards higher education programs with affiliated universities.

ANC Management defines flexible teaching as teaching and assessing using approaches that loosen the constraints of class room based face-to-face delivery. While the class room based format will continue to be the ANC Management’s main teaching mode, staff will have opportunities to engage in teaching and conducting assessments via means such as:

  • CD / interactive based resources;
  • Self-paced DVD resources;
  • Online / web-based resources and information incorporating communications technology (ICT);
  • Presentations and role-play activities; and
  • Class excursions to experience ‘real-life' scenarios.

2. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Support

The structure and the delivery of the courses offered are designed with particular reference to the very nature of the overseas learner. They have specific language, literacy and numeracy

skills and the delivery materials and trainers must ensure that they identify any language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the learner from the commencement of the course through an interview process.

We identify language, literacy and numeracy requirements for the workplace and develop learners’ current skills and learning requirements.

Students needing language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) support are identified at the time of enrolment. ANC provides assistance for students requiring (LLN) support. For students requiring only low-level support the Principal will arrange for extra-curricula assistance. Where extensive support is needed, specialist LLN tutorial sessions will be set up. These specialist sessions may attract a fee. Where an applicant’s LLN deficiency will clearly inhibit achievement of learning outcomes and the student refuses LLN support, enrolment may be declined.

To ensure information on provision for language, literacy and numeracy assessment is disseminated prior to enrolment we describe our services to students on the college web-site. As a CRICOS listed provider LL&N considerations are intrinsic in our operation including enrolment, delivery of service and marketing. A placement interview is conducted prior to enrolment to assess the proficiency of enrolling students.

Vocational students from non-English speaking backgrounds must also fulfill and provide evidence of English proficiency at levels communicated on our course outlines.

Lesson/Assessment Plans can then meet these requirements and conform to the specified competencies.
