Welcome to Wentworth Institute PDF Print E-mail

There were many changes within our college during 2012 and there are many new and exciting changes still to come in 2013!

Our New Name!

Our college has a new name: Wentworth Institute. "Wentworth" is a very historical Australian name. William Wentworth was one of three men who first crossed the Blue Mountains in May 1813. It took them twenty-one days, so it wasn’t easy and they are well-known for their bravery!

Our new website will be www.win.edu.au

Our New Address

Our college has a new address: 302-306 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills.

Wentworth Institute is across the road from the Elizabeth Street exit of Central Station on the corner of Foveaux and Elizabeth Streets. Our reception area will be on Level 1 so go there, have a look around and from there we will direct you to your correct level.

There are excellent student facilities at our new location and when we are all unpacked and settled in, you will be able to enjoy a library, an expansive balcony with tables and chairs to eat your lunch on and a big student dining room.

New Courses

Our college is growing. We can now offer you Higher Education!

We are very pleased to be able to deliver a very exciting and creative new course, a Bachelor of Interactive Media.

In this course you learn how to make professional digital media products, for example, games and animation . We would love to see you studying in our bachelor program one day.

There will be some new faces on our staff at the new address. Please make them feel welcome. Other than that, all the faces that you are familiar with will still be around.

We hope you enjoy these changes that we are bringing to you. We are constantly working on making your experience of study in Australia better and more enjoyable.

Flexible Learning and Assessment PDF Print E-mail

Wentworth Institute Management is committed to providing a flexible and equitable process for learning and assessment by delivering quality, student-centered learning experiences to all students and applying the most effective and appropriate teaching and learning modes and technologies. This will be achieved by seeking to extend flexible learning opportunities for its students and to promote flexible teaching and assessment opportunities for its staff within resource constraints.

Wentworth Institute Management defines flexible learning as an approach to education which offers the student choices in what to learn, how it is learned and assessed, and when and where learning occurs. The choices that are made available in any particular unit will reflect a balance between the needs of the particular student and the capabilities and resources of the ANC Management. We can either credit transfer towards higher education programs with affiliated universities.

Wentworth Institute use teaching and assessing approaches that loosen the constraints of class room based face-to-face delivery. While the class room based format will continue to be Wentworth Institute Management’s main teaching mode, staff will have opportunities to engage in teaching and conducting assessments via means such as:

•CD / interactive based resources;
•Self-paced DVD resources;
•Online/web-based resources and information incorporating communications technology (ICT);
•Presentations and role-play activities; and
•Class excursions to experience ‘real-life’ scenarios.

Live in Sydney PDF Print E-mail

Sydney is one of the world’s most spectacular cities with its impressive harbour full of inlets and bays. It is the first port of call for many international travellers and there is a good choice of accommodation, excellent transport connections and plenty to see and do, which ensures that Sydney never fails to impress.

Australia has two internationally recognised urban landmarks (the Harbour Bridge and Opera House) and they’re both in Sydney, but there are plenty of other things to see and do ranging from world-class museums and famous beaches to exploring vibrant neighbourhoods like The Rocks, Darlinghurst and Kings Cross.

Harbour cruises, the BridgeClimb and Opera House tours are on top of many visitors’ must-do lists, but they are expensive activities and simply walking across the bridge to get a dramatic view of the Opera House is leisurely and free. Likewise a ferry ride from Circular Quay is a much cheaper alternative to a cruise. Jump on a ferry to Manly, it’s cheap and a great way to get your bearings.

The Royal Botanic Gardens are a must-see, with their winding pathways and striking harbour views. Just around the corner is the Rocks, one of Sydney’s oldest neighbourhoods. With its historic buildings and old world charm, it is worth a look, especially when the market is on.

It is hard to imagine that just over 200 years ago Sydney was little more than a ramshackle convict colony; today it is one of the world’s leading innovators in fashion and design, and has a healthy economy to back it up. This is reflected in increased housing prices, causing the impressive suburban sprawl that characterises the city.

Sydney has a reputation as a brash and flamboyant city but despite its ostentatious reputation, many Sydneysiders keep a pretty down-to-earth and fun-loving attitude, which makes Sydney one of the world’s more welcoming major cities. Don’t be afraid to ask for directions; most people are more than happy to help.
